Regeneration

The industrial area in the municipality of Albino, between via Pradalunga, via Pradella, via Cave and the pedestrian path that descends from the church of S. Rocco to via Pradalunga, owned by the Italcementi S.p.A. company, once used as a hydraulic binder factory, is now abandoned. With the memorandum of understanding, signed on 8 January 2013 between the Municipality of Albino and the Italcementi S.p.A. company, the process for the redevelopment of the considered industrial area was started, the first step of which is the drafting of the present proposal for an urban planning project, in order therefore to recover the economic function of the former Italcementi area, in the vision of enhancement and redevelopment of the area.

The transformation of the former Albino cement factory area, along the banks of the Serio river, has been a topic of discussion for many years now, so much that it is also a strategic objective of the current Territory Government Plan. The Urban Planning Project of Maximum aims to recover an already man-made area for production purposes. The replacement of the local productive fabric, the changed needs and the enrichment of the functional mixes necessary for the urban transformation operations, are expressed in this project, divided into different functions yet consistent with the old layout of a few buildings. A distinctive feature of the industrial complex was in fact the grandeur of the Raw Materials Shed, projecting perpendicularly to the river, unlike all the other buildings in the valley which, in order to exploit the water power, were arranged parallel to the river itself. This peculiarity is clearly legible in the volumetric composition of the new compendium, even without resorting to mere mimetic citation.
